Which types require flow direction during valve installation.

1. In pipeline system installation, proper valve orientation is a critical component that determines equipment operational reliability and ensures system safety. The following are valve types with specific installation requirements that must be strictly followed.

I Check Valve

The core function of a check valve is to prevent fluid back-flow, making correct installation direction a decisive factor in achieving this functionality.

图片5

Working principle: When fluid flows in the forward direction, the pressure overcomes the spring force to lift the valve core, opening the valve. If back-flow occurs, the fluid pressure and spring work together to close the valve core, preventing reverse flow.

II Pressure Regulator

A pressure regulator is used to lower high-pressure fluid from the inlet to a set pressure and maintain a stable output at the outlet. Its operation relies on a balanced regulation system comprising internal components such as the valve plug, spring, and diaphragm. Therefore, the installation direction directly determines its functionality and system safety.

During forward installation, high-pressure fluid enters through the inlet, is reduced in pressure via the throttling gap between the valve plug and seat, and then exits. The outlet pressure acts on the valve plug through a feedback mechanism (e.g., diaphragm), dynamically adjusting the gap size to maintain stable outlet pressure.

If installed in reverse, high-pressure fluid directly impacts the sensitive feedback components and spring, causing the pressure regulation function to fail. This may lead to two serious consequences: firstly, the outlet pressure equals the inlet high pressure, rendering the valve ineffective for pressure reduction; secondly, jamming of the valve plug may cause a sudden surge in outlet pressure, exceeding the pressure limits of pipelines and equipment, resulting in incidents such as pipe rupture or explosion.

III Pressure relief valve.

①A safety valve operates on a “disc and spring” mechanism. The high-pressure system side is below the disc, while the spring side is above it. When system pressure exceeds the set value, it lifts the disc to release pressure. Once pressure normalizes, the spring reseats the disc.

②If installed in reverse, system pressure acts on the same side as the spring force, preventing the disc from lifting. This leaves the valve stuck closed, allowing system pressure to build up uncontrollably and risking pipe rupture or equipment explosion.

③The outlet must connect to a clear vent or recovery line, free from blockage or back-pressure, to ensure proper relief. Always install according to the valve body arrow, pointing from the inlet (system side) to the outlet (relief side).
